Victorian Cottage
(Present Owners James and Martha Stirewalt)
115 South Franklin Street
Built circa 1880's
This cottage with the distinctive latticework is said to be the
oldest standing residence in China Grove. Originally located on Main
Street next to the old Belk building, it was moved by A. B. Lawson
to its present location. Besides serving as residences, it has
housed a cleaning business, a printing business and the first
medical office of Dr. Max Whicker who practiced in China Grove for
many years. The Historical Society of South Rowan, Inc., owned the
house for a time and sold it to its present owners,
James and Martha Stirewalt, in 2000 and they have maintained it beautifully.
