Details of the Building

The mill has four floors, three visible above ground and a basement. Elevators to four floors carried the grain up from the basement for processing. The basement is also where the motors are housed that power the milling machines.

The equipment and machines in the mill are all original equipment and were in full operation when the mill was closed in 1995.

The first thing one notices when entering the mill is the dizzying maze of wooden chutes running throughout the building. The grain or flour traveled down through these chutes to the areas and lower floors within the building

where it was to be processed next. These chutes, as

well as the elevator are all original to the building and

are made of forest pine.

One of the more unique aspects of the mill is a history

of the weather that was recorded on a board by the mill operators. The "weather board" lists the high and low temperatures, rain and even snowfall amounts for a given date.  In addition, the inside walls of the mill are covered

with writings and notes from the many years of business dealings and community happenings. These notes give us

a greater peek into the mill's and the community's history and they also serve to make the building even more

valuable.
